Minotauro told those present that he was hit by scissors in his right eye when he was still a child and had to undergo several surgeries, but never fully recovered his vision. “I had six surgeries as a child, two as a teenager and two recently. I implanted an intraocular contact lens, if you poke the eye it actually moves. Imagine how many blows I took and had to remove and put it back in place”, said Minotauro, to the North American website MMA Fighting, during the event.

Two months before his last fight, Minotauro had to undergo surgery. The Brazilian claims that this never prevented him from passing standard medical exams before any fight. He says that this injury was one of the reasons he retired.

“That’s one of the reasons I stopped fighting. My last fight with Stefan struve, he poked me in the eye several times. If you watch the fight, you'll notice that I'm trying to hold my only leg and he's putting his fingers in my face, and that really disturbed me. It hurt a lot.”
