After inaugurate the first unit of the Corinthians MMA academy last Monday, in Parque São Jorge, Anderson Silva received good news.
The academy coordinator, João Guilherme de Oliveira Costa, declared that the club's new stadium could host the first branch of the UFC middleweight champion's academy. Depending on the success of the first venture, Corinthians can take advantage of the media generated around Itaquerão and the large number of children living in needy communities – the project's main target audience – close to the stadium.
Despite expectations, nothing is yet certain. The proximity of Tatuapé, where the headquarters of Parque São Jorge is located, to the neighborhood of Itaquera, which will receive the new Corinthians stadium, may weigh against the project. In any case, the club is interested in opening new units of its MMA academy in other neighborhoods, even other cities.
