Even coming off three defeats in the last four fights, Chris Weidman wants to take advantage of the 'chaos' that the UFC middleweight division finds itself in. With the champion Robert whittaker injured and Yoel romero, ranked first in the category, failing to weigh in at UFC 221, the 'All American' wants to 'jump the queue' to fight for the belt.

In an interview with Submission Radio, the former middleweight champion ignored the big victory of Yoel romero against Luke Rockhold at UFC 221, last Saturday (10), and put himself ahead of the Cuban for a title shot.

“As for who should fight Whittaker? I think it should be me. I just beat Gastelum who is a top-5. I finished him off like no one had ever done,” said Weidman.

The 'All American' also ruled out the possibility of facing Romero for an interim belt, if Whittaker's return to the Octagon takes longer than expected. “I think it's good that the division is less chaotic, less strange, so you'll have just one champion, no interim,” added Weidman.

Chris Weidman currently occupies fourth position in the middleweight category ranking. The North American, who took the belt of Anderson Silva in 2013, he lost his category reign in 2015, when he was knocked out by Luke Rockhold. Since then, he has added losses to Yoel romero in November 2016 and Gegard Mousasi, in April 2017. The former champion made peace with victory when he submitted Kelvin Gastelum, in July 2017.
