O UFC London had a series of problems finding his main fight, with names like Michael Bisping being speculated. The former middleweight champion received an offer to face Vitor belfort in a rematch, but he refused because he didn't want to fight the Brazilian, his personal enemy. Jimi Manuwa also came close to making the main fight, but will fight in a three-round duel against Jan Blachowicz.

Once again out of contention for the heavy belt, as the champion Stipe Miocic will face Daniel Cormier, at UFC 226, Werdum chose to remain active and will face the dangerous Volkov, who is coming off a technical knockout triumph over Stefan struve at UFC Rotterdam.

This will be the second main fight followed by “Vai Cavalo”. In November last year, he faced Marcin tybura at UFC Australia, winning his second consecutive victory, via unanimous decision. Before that, the Brazilian had finished Walt Harris, with an armbar, in just over a minute, at UFC 216. The triumph over the North American came after the controversial defeat to alistair overeem in July 2017, at UFC 213.
