Even though he was caught for the second time in an anti-doping test, Jon Jones remains optimistic about being cleared and fighting again this year. And the feeling is shared by his team. So much so that one of his coaches, Brandon Gibson, made an unusual prediction. For him, his pupil will face his arch-rival Daniel Cormier in December this year – which could also mean a one-year suspension for “Bones”, a punishment that would expire in July this year.

Through his personal Twitter, Gibson hinted that the team sees DC as favorites against the current heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic. For him, Cormier will surpass Miocic, becoming the owner of the heavyweight belt and will defend his title for the first time precisely with Jon Jones.

“Let’s make one more attempt. I predict we will see Jon Jones x Daniel Cormier for the third time, in a duel valid for the heavyweight belt on December 29, 2018,” Gibson tweeted.

Since winning the light heavyweight belt in 2011, Jones has been flirting with a move up to heavyweight, despite dominating his category, with victories over names of the caliber of Mauricio Shogun, Rampage jackson, Rashad evans, Vitor belfort, Alexander Gustafson, Glover Teixeira, in addition to Cormier himself and Ovince St Preux. Before being caught in an anti-doping test, Jones even challenged Brock Lesnar, former heavyweight champion to “debut” in the top division.
