Everything indicates that the duel between Stipe Miocic e Daniel Cormier, scheduled for UFC 226 on July 7, could change the landscape of the heavyweight and light heavyweight divisions. Especially if Cormier, the current 93 kg champion, emerges victorious. This because Cain Velazquez, former heavyweight champion, best friend and main training partner of the challenger, admitted the possibility of moving down to light heavyweight if DC wins the heavyweight title.

In an interview with the program The MMA Hour, Velasquez declared that he is not yet thinking about moving down a category, but assured that he would be able to lower the weight necessary to reach the 93 kg limit if necessary.

“If I needed to (cut weight), I could do it. I think it would be difficult, but it's a matter of the person's willpower. If I really want to do something, I can do it. Again, things could get interesting, so let's take things and go with the flow. First of all, I will help Daniel to be ready for Stipe Miocic and help me fight again, to complete the work in July”, declared the former champion, denying any possibility of a possible duel with his friend.

“I would never fight him and I think Daniel feels the same way. We are friends and training partners, we have done a lot for each other. It would be easy between us, as we have already had big wars within the academy, helping each other”, he concluded.
