After much resistance, the flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson seems to finally be opening up to the possibility of defending his belt against TJ Dillashaw, current bantamweight champion. The North American admitted that he could face his rival, but warned that he would only accept the confrontation if it took place at a big event, where he could earn points via pay-per-view.

In an interview with North American broadcaster ESPN, “Mighty Mouse” admitted that the duel with Dillashaw is what everyone wants to see and, therefore, he was willing to make the fight happen.

“This is the superfight that everyone wants to see. I think TJ and I are ready to make this fight happen. We just want to make sure it's a big event. We want to make sure we benefit from large pay-per-view buys. I think I deserve it and he deserves it too”, commented Johnson.

Traditionally, champions are entitled to a percentage of the sales of pay-per-views and, therefore, Mighty Mouse wants to fight on the same day as one of the UFC's biggest names, to ensure that he will earn as much as possible.

PUBLICITY:

“I would like another athlete to do the main fight, someone who will bring in a lot of pay-per-view buys. In my opinion, this is what has held the fight back. I've seen guys get on bigger pay-per-view cards and make millions of dollars, fighting lesser opponents than the ones I'm going to face. Me and TJ could fight on a smaller card, make 275 pay-per-view sales and get a check for $75. My managers told me to wait for the big event,” he explained.
