The interim champion Tony Ferguson didn't like having his refusal to face Khabib Nurmagomedov exposed by the Russian himself and by Daniel Cormier, teammate of “Eagle”. The two used social media to reveal that “El Cucuy” did not want to defend his interim title at UFC 219 after Ultimater offered the duel. Ferguson fired back at Khabib, calling him “fat” and saying he needs to make weight against another fighter before facing him.

Through his Twitter, the interim UFC lightweight champion also attacked his Russian rival for withdrawing from the duel between the two, which was scheduled for UFC 209. At the time, Nurmagomedov fell ill during the weight cut and the fight was canceled.
“Look, you fragile fat man. The last time we tried to fight his hat became full of moths. How about taking a number and getting back in line. Make weight, show up to fight, fight and shut up! Who is irrelevant now? Signed: of… from the champion”, said “El Cucuy”, who recently admitted that he will wait Conor McGregor return to the UFC to try to unify the category belts.
Without the interim title fight, Khabib Nurmagomedov will face the Brazilian Edson Barboza, who is on a three-fight win streak, at UFC 219, on December 30th. The fight was announced by Barboza himself during a promotional event for UFC Sao Paulolast October.
