Even though he maintains that his long-term future is at welterweight, Kelvin Gastelum continues with good performances at middleweight. And after knocking out the former champion Michael Bisping in the main fight of UFC China last Saturday (25), the North American intends to challenge the current owner of the interim belt, Robert whittaker. Gastelum is even willing to travel to Australia, where the provisional champion lives, to face him, as the UFC will hold a show in the country in February of next year.

In a press conference after UFC China, Kelvin tried to explain why he deserves a shot at the interim title, and says that he and Whittaker are the future of Ultimate, as they are at the top and have not yet reached the peak of their careers.

“I heard that Robert whittaker He needs to be in the main fight of UFC Australia, in February, and I want that challenge. You guys say I only beat old fighters, and Whittaker is certainly not old, he must be my age, so I want that. Anything can happen in MMA. Me against Robert whittaker should be the next fight. We are two young people with a future who have not even reached our peaks, and I just beat the guy who a few weeks ago was “THE” guy in the division, so I think I deserve that”, argued Gastelum.

While Whittaker must defend his interim belt in Australia, the lineal champion Georges St Pierre continues without having its future defined. The Canadian admitted that he would like to return to welterweight, a category he dominated for six years, despite his contract having a clause that obliges him, in theory, to unify the belt with the provisional champion.
