Even ranked in the middleweight category, Kelvin Gastelum maintains that his best division is welterweight, even though he has problems making weight. The North American, who faces the former middleweight champion Michael Bisping at UFC China this Saturday, admits that he continues to seek a rematch with the current owner of the welterweight belt, Tyron woodley.

The two faced each other in January 2015, at UFC 183, when “The Chosen One” beat KG by unanimous decision, in a fight in which the current middleweight did not make weight and Gastelum says he wants revenge for the defeat.

“I still feel a little bad about the Woodley fight, even after a few years. I want this rematch. I know I can beat him. And I know I can make weight. I was immature, young and stupid back then and I've grown a lot from all these experiences I've had in recent years. There has been a lot of trial and error in my career. When I fought Woodley, I was only 23 years old. Finally, I think we are putting all these experiences together and using them to improve,” said Gastelum at UFC China Media Day, also asking to be considered for a title shot with a victory over Bisping.

“I have to be up there with a win against Bisping. Whether it’s for the welterweight or middleweight title, I want to be considered. I always had my eyes set on the welterweight title and a rematch with Woodley. But I think if I win this fight with Bisping, I will have permanently secured my place among the best middleweights in the world, deserving of a title shot,” he pointed out.
