The new doping case Anderson Silva has been dividing opinions in the world of MMA. Although the banned substance found in the former middleweight champion's body has not yet been revealed, Spider still doesn't know what his future in the sport will be. However, many claim that the image left in the past will change due to recent controversies.

Asked about the subject during the Media Day held this Monday (20), José Aldo He didn't sit on the fence and give his opinion: for him, the legacy built by his compatriot is tarnished, since doping cases tarnish the credibility of the past.

“Whether you like it or not, it reduces a lot. He was caught twice. Yes, it could hinder his career, which, for me, was one of the best. It's difficult to talk about Anderson, whether he is or isn't. He is an idol for all of us. I can't say much about it, I don't know exactly what things are. (…) This ruins a career, nowadays, many fans, journalists and people in the industry say that Anderson was only champion because he was doped. This ruins your career. I try to take all precautions, do it exactly the way it has to be done. Before starting the camp, I send an email to USADA and WADA telling them everything I'm going to take and, when they release it, we start. It’s a precaution that not only me, but all athletes need to take,” declared the featherweight, who in his 13-year career has never been caught in any anti-doping test.

The new doping case comes two years after Anderson was caught in a test for the first time. In January 2015, the former middleweight champion was caught in a test before facing Nick Diaz at UFC 183. At the time, the prohibited substance found in the Brazilian's test was drostanolone, an anabolic steroid that acts on muscles, causing them to grow and become more rigid, and androsterone is a derivative of testosterone.

Having already failed an anti-doping test once again, Spider could face a sentence of up to four years if it is proven that he acted in bad faith when using a substance banned by USADA. As a result, Anderson would only fight again at the age of 46. The Brazilian had a fight scheduled against Kelvin Gastelum for UFC Shanghai on November 25th, but was removed from the fight to focus on his defense. In his place, the former champion Michael Bisping, recently defeated by Georges St Pierre, will face the promising Gastelum.
