After the tough defeat to Colby covington in the co-main event of UFC Sao Paulo, Demian Maia was received with applause in the event's Press Room for his post-fight interview. Admitting that his opponent was superior in strategy, the Brazilian ruled out retirement, but admits that he is in a “transition phase”, implying that he will hang up his gloves in two years at the most.

Demian revealed that he is taking care of a secret project in partnership with the UFC, and detailed his plans in his new phase: focusing on his gyms and spreading jiu-jitsu around the world through seminars.

“Sport changes all the time. This week I was reflecting on this. I've been in the UFC for ten years and I've been through a lot. I didn't even know I was in my last fight of the contract. I don't know who I want to fight now, but I'm not going to retire. I would say that I am in transition, already thinking about new projects. I have some things that I cannot reveal yet with the UFC, and I intend to continue expanding my gym, as well as holding seminars around the world”, commented the Brazilian, guaranteeing, however, that when he has fights scheduled he will continue with his focus.

“You saw how the fight went today. It was a war. I'll keep my focus on these projects when I don't have a fight scheduled. But as soon as I sign the contract, it's total focus on the fight and preparation. I can't afford not to seriously prepare for an MMA fight. And it will be like this for the next two years”, he said.
