Brendan Schaub visits poor community before UFC Rio

The UFC arrives in Rio de Janeiro this weekend and with the event many attractions arrive in the capital of Rio de Janeiro. In addition to the long-awaited fight program, which features as its main fight the Brazilian's title defense Anderson Silva before the Japanese Yushin Okami, the economy of the city hosting the show grows from 15 to 40 million dollars, according to data from the organization itself. With such impressive numbers, it is not only businesspeople in the tourism sector who benefit from the UFC's arrival in Rio de Janeiro, but even the city's needy communities.

the american Brendan Schaub, who will face the Brazilian Rodrigo Minotauro, visited the Tijuquinha favela and collected donations with its sponsors for children in the needy community. In the last press conference before UFC Rio, which took place this Thursday, the heavyweight spoke about the emotion of helping children in the community.

“They are extremely happy just with our visit. Children from these places have fans like Minotauro, Anderson, the Gracie, and helping them is important. Leaving my little world in Colorado (the state where the fighter lives) is a great emotion,” said Schaub. “I made a request to all my sponsors and will personally deliver all the donations I received. I hope that several champions for life emerge from there”, added the North American.

But if Brendan shows sympathy when talking about social action, this humility ends when commenting on his fight against Rodrigo Minotauro. For the North American, who has four consecutive victories, he can surprise and beat the Brazilian athlete in jiu-jitsu, a sport that is Minotauro's specialty.

“I'm passionate about jiu-jitsu and I hope to beat him that way. If I manage to take down Minotauro, I'll keep him on the ground and if I need to use jiu-jitsu to defeat him, I don't see any problem”, said a confident American.

The fight between Brendan Schaub e Rodrigo Minotauro is on the main card of UFC Rio, an event that will be held next Saturday (27), at the HSBC Arena, in Rio de Janeiro, and will feature 14 Brazilians in action. Check out the full fight program for the show below:
