Rafael dos Anjos is definitely excited for the duel against Robbie Lawler, which will be the main attraction at UFC Winnipeg, on December 16th, in Canada. Aware of the former welterweight champion's aggressive style, the Brazilian reveals that he intends to wage a 'war' in his next challenge, even believing that he will have 'the fight of the year' in 2017.

“Lawler is a tough guy, he comes in, he's a veteran, a very tough guy... I think he has everything to be the fight of the year. I'm well motivated and, man, it's going to be a war! I'm already expecting a tough fight, but I think I'm more in my moment, I'm fresher, more hungry and willing. It's not getting involved in his arm-twisting game, not getting into a fight with him, for open exchanges. I don't think this will be the way to go, because it could be good for me, or it could be good for him, it's a lottery. So, I'm going to fight intelligently, place my blows and have the patience to arrive and finish the fight when I need to,” he declared in an interview with the Combate channel website.
Number 5 in the welterweight rankings, a category in which he has two victories, Dos Anjos makes no secret of the fact that his main goal is to compete for the division's belt, which he currently has Tyron woodley as title holder. Honestly, Rafa admits that one of the reasons he accepted the duel against Lawler was precisely the fact that the champion was injured, making it impossible for him to have a chance to fight for the belt.
“I was hoping to fight for the belt, but the Tyron woodley is hurt. So, I asked the matchmaker (responsible for matchmaking the fights) what date he would be back, roughly, and in the best case scenario it would be April or May. I think he will probably only fight again in the middle of the year, meaning it will be a year without a title fight in this category. And then they offered me number one in the ranking and I thought it would be a great opportunity, because the champion was injured, and I made that suggestion. There are two former champions, the first and fifth in the rankings, and the champion will not fight for a year, injured. I thought it would be a great opportunity to put a belt on the line. That’s what I suggested, but I don’t think it’s going to happen,” he concluded.
