The main fight of UFC 216 last Saturday (7), between Tony Ferguson e Kevin Lee, it was close to not happening. This is because Lee had problems making weight and almost couldn't reach the lightweight limit, which would have made a valid duel for the interim belt in the category unfeasible. Less than a week after the event, the “Motown Phenom” admitted he doesn't remember how he made weight.

During the two-hour window for the official weigh-in, Lee came in one pound over the lightweight limit. As the difference was small, the Nevada Athletic Commission allowed him another hour to hit the mark. The fighter admits he doesn't remember how he lost the last 450g.

“I woke up at 5am on Friday (6) needing to lose just 2,7 kg, which is great, as normally I need to lose 4 kg. before weighing. However, the weight didn't come off at all. I guess I didn't take it seriously enough. With half an hour left before the window ended, the weight wouldn't come off, 680g was missing. The doctor arrived and said I needed to weigh myself by 11am (local time) and they would give me another hour. After I weighed the first time, I don't even know how I managed to lose another 450g. I didn't know where I was. Your mind feels like it doesn’t want to work when you’re in that state,” said Lee, in an interview with the podcast Chael Sonnen.

Despite admitting that he felt too heavy for the division, Lee did not want to set his future at welterweight. Before committing to changes in his career, he intends to wait and see what happens at lightweight.

PUBLICITY:

"Let's see what happens. I fought four times in the last year. I think it takes a toll on your body. I think now I need to take some time and see how things unfold in the division. Will McGregor fight Diaz or Ferguson? Are you going to open a new category? Who will be there and who will be the face of the new division? I’ll wait for things to happen”, he admitted.
