UFC light heavyweight champion, Daniel Cormier shot at former rival Anthony Johnson after the former fighter's manager revealed that “Rumble” intends to return from retirement as a heavyweight. DC declared that Johnson is a “loose” and that he only retired because he lost to him. The two fought at UFC 210 with Cormier winning via submission, just as had happened in the first fight between the two – at UFC 187.

In statements made on his podcast “Talk & Talker”, the light heavyweight champion said that Johnson didn't even stay retired for six months and, therefore, it was the impression that he only hung up his gloves because he was angry with the defeat in rematch.
“Something that has been bothering me is this news that Johnson is expected to return. I think that if he really wanted to retire, then he would have stayed away for at least a while longer. The way it's happening, it seems like he got angry about losing to me, so he gave up, retired. It is not? It’s not even six months old,” declared DC, also getting irritated by the friendship between Johnson and his arch-rival Jon Jones.
“I saw the two of them backstage at UFC 214 and he was being very friendly with Jones, hugging him and it looked like he was giving him advice on how to beat me. What the f… is this? How are you going to be so friendly against a guy you almost fought? You are a fool for doing this. I no longer have any relationship with Rumble. The competitor within you should never allow this. We can be respectful towards each other, but he was too friendly”, he complained.
