Amid much suspense, Conor McGregor seems to have already defined what his next challenge will be. Without fighting since last August, when he was knocked out by Floyd Mayweather in a boxing superfight, the Irishman is willing to return to his roots and defend, for the first time in his career, a previously won belt. Current UFC lightweight champion, he guarantees that he will defend his position in the sequel and 'shut up' the critics.

“Listen, I have the UFC lightweight belt to defend and that means a lot to me. I will defend this belt. Nathan (Nate diaz) is there. He's trying to come here and demand a lot of things, if he starts to overvalue himself at the event, I'll probably defend the title against the person who wins the interim belt...or someone along those lines, to legitimize the belt again. I've already done the biggest fight I could do in terms of a money fight. Now the question I always get is when am I going to defend the belt and legitimize the sport and the rankings. Maybe now is a good time to do that and shut these people up,” he declared, during a “Q&A” event with fans in Glasgow, Scotland.

When asked who his next opponent could be, McGregor praised the clash between Tony Ferguson e Kevin Lee, who face each other in the main fight of UFC 216, this Saturday (07), in Las Vegas (USA), for the interim lightweight belt. For Notório, the winner of the dispute will be qualified to face him next.

“Honestly, I felt that in the fight between Tony and Khabib they were playing a game of chicken to decide who would give up first. In my head right now, I'm very interested in seeing this fight (Ferguson x Lee) and seeing what the lightweight division will look like. Then I can go in there and correct this situation. That’s what I’m thinking about,” he concluded.

In the company since 2013, he has nine wins and just one defeat at home, including the historic knockout 13 seconds in José Aldo, in December 2015, which earned him the featherweight title.
