After becoming light heavyweight champion of the Russian event Fight Nights Global, a feat achieved last Monday (04), in Kaspiysk, in the Republic of Dagestan, Fábio Maldonado has already outlined what his next objective will be: to face Denis Lebedev, a Russian from 38 years old and current cruiserweight world champion of the World Boxing Association (WBA).

“I don't believe I can beat Lebedev; I am very convinced that I can beat Lebedev. I have great motivation. I've been watching Denis Lebedev fight since seven, eight years ago. I've always wanted this fight, and if I can get this chance now... The last thing on my mind is money. I wanted to fight first (place). I want to fight and beat Denis Lebedev in Russia, fight for the belt. I weighed 92,8kg, without fasting, I had already eaten 300g of fruit for breakfast and I hadn't even taken a sauna on the day of weighing. I took it off and weighed 92,8kg the day before the weigh-in. So, for me to reach 90,7kg (cruiserweight limit in boxing), it will be difficult, I suffer a little, but it won't be that agony. I will give weight and fight well. And 36 minutes, I think it's my thing. Twelve rounds, I think I'll be able to show the best Maldonado”, declared the 'Caipira de Aço', in an interview with the Combate channel website.
Maldonado, although known for his career in the UFC, also has a vast resume in the noble art. He has already had 25 professional boxing fights, with a 100% success rate. Of the 25 victories, 24 were by knockout, the most recent in April this year.
