Flyweight paige vanzant will make its debut in the new division against the experienced Jessica Eye at UFC 216. Considered one of the muses of Ultimate, the young fighter, just 23 years old, revealed that the change of category was motivated by health problems: she said she had fainted several times while cutting weight to the limit of straws, weighing 52 kg.

In an interview with The MMA Hour program, VanZant declared that she does not intend to ever fight again in the strawweight division, where she began her career in the UFC, when she was just 20 years old, in 2014. The change, according to her, was also motivated by her parents, who watched her make her last weight cut.
“I put my foot down on this decision. I'm not going to fight at straws anymore. It's time to go up. It was a very severe cut for me. People suddenly don't realize, but I'm a lot heavier than I look. Honestly, I was dying for the sport. I felt sick and passed out during the cuts in my last two or three fights. The last time I fought, my parents were in town and they came with me, they saw my cut and said if I did that again, they would disown me,” said VanZant, also revealing that his fight with Michelle Waterson it was almost canceled due to its physical state.”
“In this last fight, against Michelle, I passed out again and the Commission doctors almost didn't release me to fight. Now it makes sense with the new division that I try to do well among the flies,” she declared.
