Tyron Woodley plans 'champions' duel against St. Pierre

The welterweight champion warned that he will go after GSP if the Canadian beats Bisping and becomes owner of the middleweight belt

Tyron woodley reached his third belt defense at UFC 214 by dominating and winning Demian Maia by unanimous decision. Without a clear new challenger in the welterweight division, the champion intends to move up to middleweight if Georges St Pierre win Michael Bisping for the category title, in a duel that will lead the star-studded UFC 217, on November 4th, in New York.

Welterweight champion for over a year, Woodley admits to being obsessed with facing GSP, as he wants to prove that he is the better welterweight between the two, as St. Pierre owned the division's belt for many years.

“My brother-in-law asked me the other day who my next fight will be. I stopped, thought and came to the conclusion that if Georges St Pierre win Michael Bisping At UFC 217, I'm going to move up a division to face him, simply because he can't outrun me forever (…) To be honest, I'd face Bisping too, but I mainly want to fight Georges”, commented Woodley, in an interview with “ Sports Illustrated”, ensuring that he is not thinking about leaving welterweight permanently.

“I don’t want to leave welterweight and go to middleweight permanently. I'm big for the 77 kg category. and I have no trouble making weight, so it’s definitely the division I feel most comfortable in,” she explained.
