Less than two days after failing an anti-doping test again, Jon Jones appears to already have a line of defense for its case with USADA. And he should use the same precedent set when he was rejected before UFC 200: the contaminated supplement theory. According to Malki Kawa, the light heavyweight champion's agent, the fighter's team believes that this is the reason why he once again failed the test administered during the competition period.

Kawa says the timing of the test failure doesn't make sense, as he passed two out-of-competition tests on July 6 and 7, which he didn't know he would be tested in, and failed the one he knew he would be tested in. . According to the agent, it doesn't make sense that Jones would have ingested a banned substance knowing he would be tested.

“He is devastated. We are all shocked and devastated. It's incredible how you can be at the top of the mountain one moment and have this happening the next. It's unbelievable, surreal. I would practically bet my life that it was a contaminated supplement again. See how the tests went. He passed two tests carried out secretly, without him knowing the date on which he would be tested and he didn't immediately pass the test he knew would happen, post-fight? It doesn’t make sense”, commented Kawa, in an interview with the North American program The MMA Hour.

A few days before UFC 200, Jones was caught in a drug test and removed from his fight with Daniel Cormier, which would serve as the main attraction of the event. At the time, he managed to prove that he was a victim of contamination in a medicine to improve sexual performance. Still, he took a year-long hook and returned at UFC 214, when he knocked out DC and won back the title. Now, having fallen into anti-doping again, it is not known whether he will lose the belt.
