the failure of Jon Jones in an anti-doping test, revealed last Tuesday (22), may have prevented one of the biggest superfights in UFC history. The organization's president, Dana White, revealed to journalists in Las Vegas that Ultimate planned to pit the light heavyweight champion against Stipe Miocic, current holder of the heavyweight title, in a duel valid for the 120 kg belt. of the Croatian-American.

The superfight, according to Dana, would take place at UFC 218, if Jones and Miocic reached an agreement to face each other. The light heavyweight champion would probably keep his belt and could repeat the feat of Conor McGregor, and have two titles in two different categories at the same time, if he beat Stipe.

“We were talking about Jones fighting in the heavyweight division against Miocic, on the Detroit card,” revealed Dana, in statements reproduced on the Combate channel website.

Before being caught again in a drug test, Jones had already spoken about his desire to test himself in the top category. The light heavyweight champion, however, wanted to debut in the new division against Brock Lesnar, former owner of the heavyweight belt. He even said that a duel with Miocic did not appeal to him, due to the lack of popular appeal that the heavyweight champion has.

“He is very talented and is in a great moment (…) But I feel like he is little known to the general public, so I don't even see it as a super fight. MMA fans would be very excited, but the general public wouldn't care about this fight”, said Jones after the win over Cormier.
