On the rise in the UFC, Oezdemir challenges Gustafsson: 'I'm going to knock you out'

Fueled by three consecutive victories, Oezdemir wants to face Gustafsson to prove who is the 'true king of Europe'

UFC's main revelation in 2017, Volkan oezdemir Little by little, he has been establishing his name among the best light heavyweights in the world. After debuting in Ultimate, defeating the former title challenger Ovince St Preux, in February, the Swiss scored two devastating – and lightning – knockouts over Misha Cirkunov and Jimi Manuwa, whose fight times add up to a measly 70 seconds.

His surprising feats lifted him to third place in the division rankings, behind only the champion Jon Jones, Daniel Cormier e Alexander Gustafson. The Swede is even targeting Oezdemir, who challenged him through a post on social media. Although he shows respect for Gustafsson, Volkan proposes the duel to prove who is the better European fighter.

“We will increase the value of the next title fight. Gustafsson and I need to find out who the real king of Europe is. Alex, I know how big you are, I have a lot of respect for you, but I'm going to knock you out. It’s not because I want to, it’s because I have to do it”, wrote the Swiss.

Having worked for Bellator, Oezdemir, 27, has a record of 15 wins and just one loss. Of the 15 victories, ten were by knockout, one by submission and three by points.
