UFC welterweight champion, Tyron woodley defended his title against Demian Maia at UFC 214 last Saturday. On the same night, Robbie Lawler overcame Donald Cerrone and, according to Dana White, president of Ultimate, he has qualified to challenge for the title again – “Ruthless” already owned the belt and lost it to Woodley, who does not want a rematch.

According to the American, his former victim didn't do enough against Cerrone to deserve a new chance at the title. After his loss to Woodley at UFC 201 in August last year, Lawler decided to step away from MMA for a few months and only returned to fighting last Saturday.

“Should I face Robbie Lawler again? What has he done in the last year other than go into a bubble and hide? What was it Ronda Rousey he did. He didn't do that when he was knocking everyone out. I didn't do that when I got knocked out. I dusted myself off and went back to test myself. I don't think that someone who took a year off comes back with just one well-balanced victory and is already fighting for the belt", argued the champion, in an interview with the program The MMA Hour, admitting that he hasn't communicated as much with his former friend since the fight between the two.

“I know Dana White loves Robbie, the fans do too. I really like him as a fighter and we were friends before the fight. In fact, I think it's a shame that we haven't communicated as much since then, but I don't think he deserves another chance”, he concluded.
