More than a month after overcoming José Aldo at UFC 212 and win the linear featherweight title, the Hawaiian Max Holloway is close to meeting his next opponent. And he must be an old acquaintance of the division: Frankie Edgar. According to the manager of the current champion up to 66 kg. of Ultimate, the former owner of the lightweight belt should be his client's first title defense.

Brian Butler revealed that Holloway is negotiating a new contract with the UFC and, as soon as he renews it, the duel against Edgar should be made official. The Hawaiian's agent said, however, that the fight should take place in Las Vegas and not in Hawaii, as his client requested.
“We are in negotiations now with Max and looking at a new agreement (with the UFC), and once that is in place, we will be ready. It seems likely to be Frankie Edgar the next opponent (…) If you had the opportunity to do this in Las Vegas, where you know you will make many millions, or do it in Hawaii, where you shouldn't have that, what will you do?”, he asked Butler, in an interview with the North American program MMA Junkie Radio.
After losing the second fight to José Aldo, at UFC 200, once again competing for the featherweight title, Edgar recovered with spectacular victories over Jeremy Stephens, at the historic UFC 205, and in front of the Mexican promise Yair Rodriguez, at UFC 211. Holloway won the interim belt in December, against Anthony Pettis and unified him against Aldo at UFC 212, held in Rio de Janeiro.
