The output of Gegard Mousasi from UFC to Bellator took a lot of people by surprise. One of these people was Chael Sonnen, former Ultimate and currently an athlete for Scott Coker's organization. Honestly, the loud-mouthed North American admitted that he didn't expect a change of scenery from the Armenian/Dutch, who was coming off five consecutive victories in his former home.

“That surprised me. He has a good relationship with Scott Coker (president of Bellator). But you interviewed him before the fight with (Chris) Weidman and asked if he would like to test the market afterwards. And I remember he replied that no, that he wasn't satisfied with his contract but that he wasn't trying to do a media stunt. I thought he was sincere, but I believe something has changed since he spoke to you – but I know absolutely nothing. Pretty cool for Bellator, but I thought he was going to renew his contract and have a rematch with Weidman”, in an interview with 'The MMA Hour'.

Surprise aside, Sonnen wasted no time and took the opportunity to explore a possible duel between them. According to the American, Mousasi arrives at the organization close to a title fight, while he is still looking for an opponent.

“Yes, I'm looking for a fight right now. If I had to risk saying something, I think I can say that Mousasi is closer to a middleweight title fight than I am. (…) Let’s see what will happen”, he concluded.
