In the second most important fight of UFC 213, an event that took place last Saturday (08), in Las Vegas (USA), alistair overeem got the best of the trilogy with Fabricio Werdum, being declared the winner by majority decision of the side referees. Despite the Brazilian contesting the result, The Reem, as he is known, showed respect for the Gaucho, but highlighted that he was better during most of the fight.

“I know that Fabricio may not be the most athletic opponent, he doesn't have that knockout power in his hands, but he finds his way. He is very dedicated and intelligent. And you need to have your own plan to beat it. (…) I'm very proud, I believe I dominated in two and a half rounds, I landed the shots, but in the last round it didn't go the way I wanted. I have a lot of respect for Fabricio, he has improved his striking with each fight, he shook me a few times, but I think I controlled most of the fight. I respect him a lot. Of course he has a sublime ground game, I didn't want to give him that opportunity and I knew that the longer the fight went, as long as I could stay on my feet, the better chances I would have. Sometimes you don’t agree with the judges, but I think they did well in the result today”, declared Aliastair, in a press conference after the victory.

Now with two consecutive victories in the category, Overeem does not hide his desire to fight again for the heavyweight belt, which currently belongs to Stipe Miocic, who knocked out the Dutchman in September 2016. However, in addition to fighting for the title, the European revealed that his goal is to play in some countries, including Brazil.

“Dana is the boss and he’s the one in charge. It wasn't a perfect performance, but I'm here to do whatever I have to do to get the title fight. If I have to go through someone else, I'll do it. I don't have any injuries, I'm fine and I would like to fight at Madison Square Garden (New York) once. I think it would be something beautiful in my career. I want to fight in the Netherlands, Japan and I heard that the UFC is going to do a card in Dubai soon. So, if I can fight in one of these places I would be happy. I also need to fight in Brazil at least once in my career”, concluded the fighter.
