The Brazilian Thiago Marreta achieved an important victory in the preliminary portion of UFC 213 by knocking out Gerald meerschaert in the second round of the duel between the two. It was the second consecutive triumph for the middleweight, who showed that he had recovered from the defeats suffered against Gegard Mousasi and Eric Spicely last year.

The first round started with a lot of exchanges between the two, but the American pressed and took the center of the octagon, gaining the advantage. Meerschaert even took down the Brazilian, who soon managed to get up. After a confrontation on the fence, Marreta suffered an elbow that opened a deep cut on his head. The Brazilian seemed to wake up with blood flowing and began to be more aggressive, landing hard blows on his rival.
However, a finger in the eye from Marreta interrupted the duel for a few moments, and he lost the chance to knock out Meerschaert, who resisted until the end of the round. In the second round, however, the Brazilian came out better physically, set a strong pace and, after a series of ground and pound punches, forced the referee to stop the fight.
After the duel, Marreta took advantage of the interview with commentator Joe Rogan to challenge Mousasi. The two dueled at UFC 200, when the Brazilian entered the fight with just a few weeks of preparation.
“I want to fight Mousasi. I respect him a lot, but last time I had little time to prepare. I'll do anything to face him again. I need three months this time to prepare properly and face him again,” she commented.
