Shogun rematches St. Preux in UFC Japan main event

12 years after one of the best moments of his career, when he became champion of the middleweight GP at the now defunct Japanese Pride event, Mauritius Shogun will return to fight in the country where he made history. The Curitiba native will face Ovince St Preux in the main fight of UFC Japan, on September 23, in Saitama, in a fight valid in the light heavyweight category (up to 93 kg).

The duel is a rematch, as the two already faced each other in 2014, in the main event of UFC Uberlândia. At the time, Shogun was knocked out in just 34 seconds. Since then, the Brazilian hasn't lost anymore.

At 35, Mauritius Shogun He is going through his best phase in the UFC, with three consecutive victories. His most recent performance was last March, when he knocked out Gian Villante at UFC Fortaleza. Former UFC light heavyweight champion, he has nine triumphs and eight setbacks in the organization.

St. Preux, in turn, finished Marcos Foot in April this year, recovering from three consecutive defeats. OSP even challenged for the interim light heavyweight belt at UFC 197, in April 2016, but was defeated by Jon Jones. In Ultimate since 2013, he has played 13 duels in the organization, totaling eight positive results and five negative results.
