Without fighting since September 2016, Fabricio Werdum prepares to return to the octagon against alistair overeem at UFC 213, July 8, in Las Vegas (USA). Despite his inactive time, the organization's former heavyweight champion believes that a victory in the trilogy against the Dutchman will be enough to put him back in a title fight against Stipe Miocic, responsible for dethroning the Brazilian as champion.

“It’s 1-1 (against Overeem). I submitted him in Kimura in 2006, it was a good fight, it drew attention, but in the second it was a warm fight that nobody liked, everyone booed, I was overtraining, but that's over. It's 1-1 and we're going to do the 'negation', which should take me to the title. The most important thing is to win, but a fight that impresses, ending by knockout or submission, qualifies me to go straight to a title fight. I'm first in the rankings, so the most certain thing would be this rematch against Stipe Miocic in December”, declared the gaucho, in an interview with the website 'Portal do Vale Tudo'.

To prepare for the duel, Werdum revealed that he is training with a 'look-alike' of Overeem. This is the American Sean Johnson, who has been holding sparring sessions with the Brazilian.

“I got two good sparring partners, two big guys. As I always do, I look for sparring partners who resemble my opponent. Look how things are... a big guy arrived here at the gym out of nowhere, and the impressive thing is that the guy is as strong as Overeem in his 'golden' era. So this guy arrived out of nowhere and I got him to train with me”, he concluded.
