With each passing day, the duel between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather gets closer to becoming official. Last Monday night (12), the Nevada Athletic Commission revealed that Mayweather Promotions, the boxer's promotional company, reserved the date of August 26 for an event. Even though the reservation request was withdrawn hours later, according to Lance Pugmire, reporter for the 'Los Angeles Times', the website of the North American broadcaster ESPN reports that August 26th is the date that Mayweather and McGregor intend to face each other.

Another detail disclosed by the North American ESPN report is the weight at which the fight should take place. Conor McGregor moves well through all MMA divisions between featherweight (66 kg.) and welterweight (77 kg.). However, in boxing the categories are different and the duel must take place at welterweight in the noble art, whose weight limit is 66,7 kg.
“We are actually negotiating at the moment. But none of us want to turn these negotiations into a circus, as happened when Floyd Mayweather faced Manny Pacquiao. I think the best thing is for all parties involved to remain silent”, commented Stephen Espinoza, vice president of Showtime Sports, which has the right to broadcast Mayweather's fights, to ESPN in the United States.
Contrary to what Dana White predicted, however, the expectation is that the entire event surrounding McGregor x Mayweather will be boxing fights and not MMA. The American wants two of the fighters he would manage to appear on the card: Badou Jack, former super middleweight champion, and Gervonta Davis, junior lightweight champion.
