After hearing harsh complaints from Demetrious Johnson, UFC flyweight champion, Dana White, president of the organization, retorted the North American and even provoked him. DJ is considered the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, but the manager declared that this title should be given to Conor McGregor. Furthermore, White also declared that some of Johnson's statements were lies.

In a press release, the flyweight belt holder had said that, after refusing to face TJ Dillashaw, former bantamweight champion, the UFC threatened to close the 57 kg division, a category in which he is the current and only champion in history.
“My partner Mick (Maynard, UFC matchmaker), who is one of the guys negotiating with Johnson, said that most of the things he said didn't actually happen. Johnson didn't want pay-per-view points when we negotiated his last contract. He doesn't trust his ability to attract an audience. He wanted money. He's the guy with the lowest audience in the modern UFC era. And I think a fight with TJ Dillashaw it would be interesting for the fans and he could make money off of it, but DJ refuses. It's ridiculous (…) You guys in the press say so much that he's the best pound-for-pound in the world, but in my opinion Conor McGregor it is better. Conor will fight anyone at any time. He does not care. That’s the definition”, said Dana White, in an interview with the North American website TMZ, also denying that Johnson had not been promoted properly.
“Are we not promoting it well? Dude, we just built a TV show around it! The Ultimate Fighter 24 was completely focused on saying how great he is. We’ve had it on FOX multiple times, so I don’t understand,” he stated.
