The perfect record with nine victories in nine fights, all via the fast track, added to the youth of Paulo borrachinha show why the Minas Gerais native is considered one of the main Brazilian prospects in the UFC. At 26 years old, the middleweight, who enters action this Saturday (03), at UFC 212, in Rio de Janeiro, against Oluwale Bamgbose, is keen to assume the role of promise for the sport, ensuring that he is able to represent the new generation of fighters.

“I think I'm representing the new generation of Brazilian fighters. We are in need of renewal. We see big names that practically founded the sport, like Vitor (Belfort), for example, but we know that we won't continue watching these names for much longer, so we really need renewal. I consider myself a fighter of this new generation that is arriving in MMA to take the position of icons of the sport in our country”, declared the Minas Gerais native, in an exclusive interview with SUPER FIGHTS.

Asked about his next challenge, Borrachinha challenged Bamgbose's game. According to him, his rival's recent performances do not match the 'explosive' reputation that the American carries.

“I'm going to keep the fight going, I'm going to look for the knockout. I believe I'm stronger, I have more powerful blows and a bigger explosion. I see a lot of people saying that he (Bamgbose) is very explosive, but I don't see that explosion. I think being explosive is when you land a lot of blows on your opponent, and I don't see him doing that often. (…) I think I’m really explosive, he’s not,” said the Brazilian, who concluded by stating that his desire is to fight for the middleweight belt by the end of 2018.

“I don’t have any specific name (to challenge). By winning this fight, I would like to face a top 10 fighter in the category this year. Next year, we’ll have three more fights and, who knows, we’ll get a title shot after the next four fights.”
