With the victory, Gustafsson places himself, for the third time, close to the position of challenger for the light heavyweight belt. He has already challenged for the title on two occasions, but was defeated by Jon Jones, in 2013, and for Daniel Cormier, in 2015. In the post-fight interview, the Swede praised the Brazilian, but highlighted his performance.

The fight

The duel started off lively, with both fighters taking the initiative. Glover grabs his rival and delivers a beautiful takedown, but Gustafsson gets up afterwards. Teixeira tries to close the distance, but Gustafsson hits an illegal finger on Glover's left eye, forcing the referee to stop the fight for a few moments. The fight returned in the center of the octagon, with Alexander connecting a beautiful hook to the Brazilian's chin, which shook. Glover continued hunting the Swede, who was literally running around the Octagon. In the final minute, the Minas Gerais native tried to take the fight to the ground, without success.

In the first minute of the third stage, Gustafsson, once again, landed a powerful hook on Glover's chin, who fell. The Swede went into the Brazilian's guard and started throwing elbows, but Teixeira resisted the punishment, swept and managed to stay on his feet. But for a short time, as Alexander applied the takedown and took the fight back to the ground. Warrior, Glover managed to get up again.
