Anyone who thinks that a career Vitor belfort in MMA it is close to the end. With the last fight of his UFC contract scheduled for UFC 212, June 3, in Rio de Janeiro, against Nate Marquardt, the 40-year-old from Rio stated that he will continue fighting after leaving the organization.

“I'm leaving the UFC, but I'm going to continue competing. Fighting is my passion. It's a shame that MMA hasn't become a serious sport yet. Who knows, maybe I can help change this situation”, revealed Vitor, in an interview with 'VEJA Rio”.

In addition to confirming that he will not hang up his gloves in the coming months, Belfort once again highlighted his desire to create the 'League of Legends', with the purpose of valuing veterans of the sport. What's more, he didn't rule out a rematch with Anderson Silva.

“If one day (the rematch with Anderson) has to happen, it has to be a profitable fight for both. We are at the age to reap the rewards. In fact, I want to create the League of Legends, with athletes who did a lot for martial arts and are now undervalued. Where is the Royce gracie?”, declared the 'Phenomenon', who concluded by criticizing the current generation of fighters.

“Today, a fighter is more of an artist than an athlete. The UFC itself is a show, not a sport. It's sad to see new fighters wanting to drive the car of the moment or gain the spotlight like the Conor McGregor. Their reference is to have, not to be,” she concluded.

Belfort has been fighting MMA professionally since 1997. The Brazilian was champion of the UFC 12 heavyweight GP and, in the 46th edition of the event, he became light heavyweight champion, after beating Randy Couture. After leaving Ultimate to fight in other promotions, the Phenomenon returned to Ultimate in 2009. During his new stint in the UFC, Vitor competed for the middleweight title on two occasions, losing to Anderson SilvaChris Weidman. He comes from three consecutive defeats, the most recent to Kelvin Gastelum in March this year, at UFC Fortaleza. His last victory was in November 2015, when he knocked out Dan Handerson.
