Former UFC bantamweight champion, Miesha Tate announced her retirement at the end of last year after losing her title to the Brazilian Amanda nunes and, soon after, be defeated by Rachel Pennington, his mentee on the 18th season of The Ultimate Fighter. Even after retirement, Tate admitted that he does not rule out a return in the future, commenting that he thinks with his heart and that “he likes to fight”. However, the introduction of flyweight (up to 57 kg.) in Ultimate will not make Miesha return.
“There is no weight or money that will make me return to the sport. The only thing, as I said, that would tempt me to return is my heart, which I always listen to. But I'm not interested in making the weight cut to 57 kg, honestly. If I were to return, I think it would be easier to see myself at 66 kg. (featherweight, another newly opened category). I've been cutting weight my whole life, first in wrestling competitions and then in MMA and it's exhausting. I'd rather not cut any weight than cut weight. The flyweight division doesn’t interest me”, commented Tate in an interview with the North American website “MMA Junkie”.
After retiring from MMA, the former champion has dedicated herself to presenting her own podcast, “The Miesha Tate Show”, in addition to appearing as a UFC commentator in special programs on the North American channel FOX Sports, which has the rights to broadcast Ultimate in the United States.
