Garbrandt reveals back injury and may leave fight with Dillashaw

Bantamweight champion had surgery that was unsuccessful and will travel to Germany in search of treatment

The bantamweight champion cody garbrandt revealed, through his social networks, a back injury that could force him to leave his first title defense. The “No Love” duel with the archrival TJ Dillashaw is scheduled for July, at UFC 213. Assuring that he will try everything to face the former champion, Garbrandt gave details of his injury.

“I'm traveling to Germany on Saturday (13) for my second back surgery in less than three months. Rest assured, TJ Dillashaw, your time will come. I had a back problem over two months ago and had a stem cell procedure, but they were unable to heal my injury as they said they would. Now, I’m going to Germany in search of a new treatment”, commented the North American.

Garbrandt and Dillashaw were teammates on Team Alpha Male, until TJ changed teams, and went to Elevation, when he was still bantamweight champion. He has since lost his title to Dominick Cruz and beat two other opponents – Raphael Assunção and John Lineker. During this period, Garbrandt emerged in the bantamweight division and dethroned Cruz at the end of last year, becoming owner of the belt. The two are coaches on The Ultimate Fighter 24.
