Despite having had a love affair with Brazilian fans when he was in the country to fight at UFC Fortaleza, Kelvin Gastelum he no longer intends to fight in Brazil. Punished for marijuana use by CABMMA (Brazilian MMA Commission) and STJD-MMA, the North American was angry with the fine and suspension he received and said he will no longer accept fights in the country.

Through his Twitter, Gastelum had already shown his frustration with the decision of the STJD-MMA and CABMMA, which punished him for three months, in addition to taking 20% of his scholarship in fine. Kelvin accused the organizations of “just being after money.”
“That mistake cost me almost $100. There are a lot of people doing worse things than smoking marijuana. I know this and organizations are still allowing this to happen. I only use it to relieve pain and sleep. I'm always feeling pain because of the training (…) I love Brazil, I want to visit whenever I can, but I'm not going to fight there anymore, the Commission only cares about the money”, commented Gastelum in an interview with the program “The MMA Hour”.
In addition to losing 20% of his purse, in addition to his victory over Vitor belfort (turned into a fight without result), Kelvin Gastelum seems to have forever lost the opportunity to face Anderson Silva. Before his suspension, he was confirmed to face Spider at UFC 212, but now he has a new fight scheduled for July. The opponent has not yet been announced.
“It’s not the fight I wanted, exactly. Everyone knows who wanted to face Anderson Silva in July, but his team turned down the fight. They have their reasons. I already have an opponent for July, but I can't say where the fight will be or against who. I need to fight after getting this fine”, commented the American.
