Marcos Foot lost the battle against the scales. After failing to reach the weight limit for the light heavyweight category (up to 93kg) in his last two fights, the Brazilian announced that he is moving up to the heavyweight category.

The decision was made after his defeat to Ovince St Preux No. UFC Nashville, held last Saturday (22). The previous day, during the weigh-in, Pezão weighed 95,2 kg, 1,8 kg above the division limit. As a result, he was penalized 30% of his purse, which went to his opponent.

“It’s not healthy for me to fight at this weight. I don't recover well. I fractured my cheekbone and nose after receiving a blow. It wasn't even that strong, but the doctor said it probably fractured because my potassium and calcium levels were very low”, declared the fighter, in an interview with the 'MMA Fighting' website.

Pezão also had problems with the scales during the preparation for his previous fight, when he knocked out Jeremy Kimball at UFC Denver in January. On that occasion, the fighter, who exceeded the category limit by another two kilos (he weighed 95,07kg), revealed that he fainted twice during the weight cut process.

“The first time I was in the pool so no problem, but the second time I was in the bathroom so I went down and hit my head. It was the first time something like this happened to me. Even when I cut down to 84kg I was fine, but this time I had problems. My body was at its limit. I was afraid of how my body would react during the fight because of the high altitude, but thank God everything worked out. It was a good fight. I felt a little slower, but I still won”, concluded the fighter.

Semi-finalist of TUF Brasil 3, Pezão made his UFC debut as a heavyweight, when he knocked out Rick Monster in just 20 seconds. Afterwards, he moved down to light heavyweight and had six more fights, recording three wins and three defeats.
