Roan Jucão is no longer part of the Ultimate fighter roster. At 38 years old, he ended his career in the organization after losing to Ryan LaFlare at UFC 208, last February. However, the Brazilian ruled out the possibility of retirement, and assured that he will continue fighting in other organizations.

“It was my last fight on my contract. I already expected that the UFC wouldn't renew it, even if I won and had an exemplary fight. Their policy has cut athletes who come from defeats or victories, it's something that doesn't work very well. Of course we wanted to win the fight, I worked for that, but life goes on. The UFC is the biggest event in the world, but what I like to do is fight MMA. Life goes on. There are many, many organizations around the world… in Russia, Korea, the United States and even Brazil. Wherever there is a ring and a cage to present myself, if recognized and paid, I will be fighting”, declared Roan, in an interview with the website 'Combate.com'.

Despite having only had three fights in the last two years, Jucão intends to remain more active in 2017, and plans to have three more fights by the end of the year.

“At the moment I don’t think about stopping fighting. I fight as long as the carcass holds. I'm fine, I go to the gym to train with the kids and I feel good. The day I don't fix anything, it will be time to stop. I think about doing two or three more by December. There will be four in total, counting the one I did in February. It could be one in July, one in September and another at the end of the year”, he concluded.
