MMA organization innovates and promises monthly salary to fighters

The WSOF (World Series of Fighting) will be reformulated from 2018, starting with the name. The organization announced that it will be renamed PFL (Professional Fighters League), and will adopt a format similar to that of the largest team sports leagues in the USA, with a regular season and playoff disputes to define the champions.

In total, there will be seven weight categories competing for a prize of US$10 million (around R$31,5 million), with each champion receiving US$1 million (R$3,15 million), while the US$3 remaining million (R$9,5 million) will be shared with the other fighters on the cast. Another new feature is salaries. According to the website “MMA Fighting”, which obtained an email sent to athletes by Ray Sefo, president of the franchise, all fighters will be paid monthly, something previously unheard of in the world of MMA, since all athletes only they receive for fighting.

Founded in 2012, the WSOF has already held 37 events, and currently has 100 fighters on its roster, including five champions: Bekbulat Magomedov (bantamweight), Andre Harrison (featherweight), Justin gaethje (lightweight), Jon Fitch (welterweight) and Blagoy Ivanov (heavy weight). However, it has not yet been revealed which and how many athletes will be hired by the new league.
