A former bantamweight fighter, DJ moved down to the flyweight division after the division opened in 2012. Johnson participated in a mini-tournament with Ian McCall, Joseph Benavidez and Yasuhiro Urushitani. The current champion beat the first two in the semifinal and final, respectively, becoming the first, and so far, only UFC flyweight champion. Garbrandt, in turn, had a perfect 2016, with four wins in four fights, culminating with the triumph over Dominick Cruz, which gave him the title of roosters. The new champion also recently revealed that he intends to fight for the featherweight belt, currently held by José Aldo.
