Current Ultimate welterweight champion, Tyron woodley won the belt less than seven months ago, but the fact is enough to put him above even Georges St Pierre, who reigned in the category for seven years. According to T-Wood, he is the best fighter at 77 pounds in MMA history, and he just needs to keep winning to prove that to the fans.

“It's not that I want to silence the critics, but I'm the best welterweight to ever fight in the Octagon and I just need to keep winning to prove it. My coaches and I know that I currently occupy that position. I'm more complete and punch harder than Georges St-Pierre, and he was the best of all time. So, I feel like I have the tools, the skill and all I need to do is keep knocking them out one by one to eventually be recognized as the best welterweight to ever fight in the Octagon.” 'TMZ' (USA).

Despite being called the best of all time, Woddley has only once defended his belt in the organization, held in a draw with Stephen Thompson at UFC 205, in November 2016. On March 4, at UFC 209, he will have a rematch with Thompson, and promised to dominate his rival and then start planning his next opponents.

“Obviously, if I don't focus on Wonderboy, none of these fights will happen. He's the one who's going to face GSP, the Conor McGregor: Demian Maia: Robbie Lawler: Jorge masvidal. I see all these fights in my future, but obviously after passing him (Thompson) in a dominant way”, he concluded.

Woodley, 34 years old, became champion of the category by defeating Robbie Lawler at UFC 201, in July 2016, by knockout in the first round. With 16 wins and just three losses in his career, he hasn't known what it's like to lose since 2014, when he was surpassed by Rory McDonald in the unanimous decision of the judges. In Ultimate, there are six positive results, two negative results and one draw.
