Holm complains about punches after the bell: 'I lost respect for Germaine'

Former UFC bantamweight champion Holly holm failed in her attempt to become the first woman to hold titles in two different categories. But the defeat for Germaine DeRandamie UFC 208 had some controversies, especially the two times the new champion hit Holm after the bell.

Despite not linking the blows to the defeat, the American admitted that she was irritated by what happened and said that she lost some of the respect she had for the new featherweight champion. Holly also said that, if there is a rematch, she will be prepared to exchange blows after the bell rings.

“(The blows) were intentional. Two of her best punches came after the end of round signal. I don't know how the judges saw it, but if they scored for her, what can I do? I should have capitalized on the moments I had and didn't capitalize on. I guess you could say I lost a little respect for her. I know she's not there to try to be my friend, but next time I'll be ready to return (the illegal blows)”, said Holm, after the fight.

Technically, strikes after the gong are not illegal. This is because in MMA, the assault only ends when the referee stops both athletes. Todd Anderson, responsible for refereeing the duel, was heavily criticized for taking too long to separate the two fighters and also for not taking a point from De Randamie for unsportsmanlike conduct.
