The former champion Lyoto Machida was suspended by USADA after admitting the use of the substance 7-keto-DHEA in April 2016 and will only be able to return to the UFC in October this year. However, the Brazilian guarantees that he has kept up to date and hopes that the time out of combat will help him remain among the big names in the middleweight division. Lyoto explained that he has been training in different gyms and with fighters of different levels with the aim of not being left behind when he returns to MMA.

“It’s very difficult because the sport evolves and changes very quickly. So, you have to be there to see the changes that are happening right now. That's why I keep training every day and try to mix it up in different gyms. I try to go to Kings MMA with Master Rafael Cordeiro to do some sparring there and train with several UFC and Bellator fighters. (…) I think that in the end, this period without fighting will be good for me”, commented Lyoto on the podcast “The Fighter and the Kid”, presented by the former fighter Brendan Schaub and actor Bryan Callen.
