After more than three years without fighting, Zumbi Coreano returns aiming for the featherweight title

Without fighting since August 2013, Chan sung jung has bold plans for his return to Ultimate. After pausing his MMA career to do military service in South Korea, the 'Korean zombie', as he is known, returns to the octagon this Saturday (04) against Dennis Bermudez, in the main fight of UFC Houston.

Grateful for being cast in a main event upon his return, the fighter guarantees that retirement was never in his plans, on the contrary. According to him, the objective is to win the belt in the featherweight category (up to 66kg), which is currently in the possession of José Aldo.

“I always planned to return, I never thought about retiring, especially since I have two daughters now. I have to think about my family. I'm happy they put me in the main event against a guy like Dennis Bermudez after being away for so long. I was thinking about fighting someone who was in a similar position to Bermudez in the rankings, so I'm satisfied. If I win, I hope I only need one more victory to compete for the title. We will need to see how everything will happen, of course, but this is my ideal scenario”, he declared, in an interview with the “MMA Fighting” website.

Despite the time away, the featherweight guarantees that he maintained his training routine, in addition to improving some aspects of his game. “Due to all the injuries and surgeries I had due to MMA, I worked in a government office, so I started working early in the morning, so I could finish training in time almost every day. I didn’t train as intensely as I used to, but I focused on improving my skills at different points”, concluded the South Korean.

Chan sung jung, 29 years old, last acted at UFC 163, in Rio de Janeiro, when he was knocked out by Jose aldo, in a duel valid for the featherweight title. Previously, he had had three fights at Ultimte, having beaten Leornad Garcia, Mark hominick, Dustin poirier, all via the fast lane.
