Lightweight David Rickels is known to Bellator fans for his costumes and floaty entrances before his fights. But last Friday (27), the North American took his theatrical side to another level. With the help of fans who attended the Kansas Star Arena in Kansas City for Bellator 171, Rickels simply did the famous dummy challenge before his fight against Aaron Derrow.
An internet craze in recent months, the mannequin challenge consists of filming a group of people standing completely still for a few seconds. Rickels even got Bellator officials to join in on the fun, including ring girl Mercedes Terrell. The challenge brought him luck, as he beat Derrow via technical knockout in the third round.
Bellator 171's main event was a welterweight duel between former UFC fighter Melvin Guillard and Chidi Njōkuani, who won by unanimous decision, achieving his seventh victory in a row and coming close to a fight for the category belt, held by the Brazilian Douglas lima currently.
