“For now, as far as I know, I’m still in this event. The UFC is looking for an opponent and I'm hoping they can find someone who is relevant to us. It is the second time in a month that Werdum has denied it. As soon as Struve announced his injury, they called him and he refused again. It's a situation that makes me sad, it's a waste of time and I don't have any more time to waste. I’m quite upset and frustrated with this whole situation”, commented Cigano, to the UOL website.

The former champion also accused his rival of being homophobic when trying to provoke him. “Vai Cavalo” told the Combate channel website, in a joking tone, that Cigano had not come out of the closet and, therefore, talked about him so much.

“I laughed, right? He looks like one of those eight-year-old kids fighting at school and calling their little friend 'faggot'. I found it extremely unnecessary. I have a lot of friends who are gay and were offended by this situation. That wasn't an offense to me, I'm not and I don't need to prove anything to anyone. But I have many friends, yes. In fact, the UFC world champion, Amanda nunes, is also openly gay. I think he was extremely offensive,” she lamented.

The two former champions have faced each other before, in 2008, at UFC 90. At the time, Cigano was making his UFC debut and won by knockout in the first round. Werdum left the organization shortly after and went to fight for Strikeforce, only returning in 2012, beginning a journey that took him to the heavyweight belt.
