“I decided to start 2017 with new challenges and I think I will fight happier in this top category, because there are almost 7 kg less to lose”, revealed dos Anjos, in an interview with the Combate channel website.

“I’ve already achieved what I had to achieve at lightweight. Furthermore, it has been very difficult to lose weight. Between 2014 and 2015 I fought five times and, after that, in this run for the belt, my body changed a little. In the fight against Donald Cerrone, when I defended the belt for the first time, my body felt different. Against Eddie Alvarez it was even worse and, in the fight with Tony Ferguson It was much more difficult”, he added.

Rafael dos Anjos, 32 years old, has a professional record of 25 wins and nine losses. The Brazilian won the lightweight belt in March 2015, when he beat Anthony Pettis and defended the title against Donald Cerrone, in December of the same year. Rafa was chosen to face Conor McGregor in a superfight, but ended up getting injured and only returned to the octagon in July when he was surprised by Eddie Alvarez and lost his lightweight belt. When the Anjos returned, he fought badly again and lost. Tony Ferguson, last November.
