Suspended from MMA until July, Jon Jones returned to competition last Sunday (11) at Submission Underground, a grappling event organized by Chael Sonnen. In the main fight, the former UFC champion submitted Dan Henderson, recently retired from MMA, with a katagatame and asked for a fight against Sonnen himself, also in the submission.
The clash between Jones and Hendo was originally scheduled for MMA and would be for “Bones” light heavyweight belt at UFC 151. However, a few days before the fight, the then challenger was injured, Jones refused to face Chael Sonnen nine days in advance and the event was cancelled.
Other UFC representatives were also in action at the event: former champion Miesha Tate, another athlete to recently retire from MMA, won Jessica Eye in overtime.
